Hum, Buzz, & Hiss: How to hear music in the noise
What I’ll Be Sharing With You:
Every Friday, you’ll get a letter from me with the following:
[Always] New music recommendations in the ambient genre and across all others
[Always] Personal reflections that aim to understand universal ideas in the realms of creativity, art, and humanity’s greatest pasttime: meaning-making
[Most of the time] Stories about the humans behind the music, especially independent ambient artists who deserve our ears
[Sometimes] News about upcoming releases in the ambient/experimental space sourced from the artists and labels themselves
Disclaimer: I don’t like to write inside a box, so you can expect my writing to vary in its subject matter. What will be consistent is my commitment to honesty, to the music, and to expressing myself to you freely.
Why I’m Writing to You:
There’s a lot of content out there, but I am not interested in being distracted—I am interested in people and the art they create. I am voracious in my readiness to hear something new, to feel something different, to see something differently.
There are many misconceptions around ambient music, the largest of which is that it is made to be ignored. It is ignorable, sure, but so is any music. Just because it’s great at coloring a space and dwelling in the background of our awareness, it is also worthy of our complete attention.
Here at Hum, Buzz, & Hiss, I am pledging to make time each week to connect with you so we can pause, reflect, and listen with intent. Through this regular practice, I hope you and I can draw joy from the consistent discovery of something new: new music, new ideas, and new humans who inspire and add meaning to our lives.
Who Am I?
