A friend of mine made a bed for their phone. Both symbolic and practical. I’ve been ruminating on “give your phone the day off,” or taking some time off, at least.
We all got suckered into this worldwide attention stealing heist, you’re not alone.
That’s a fun idea! I’ve noticed when I occasionally forget to charge my phone over night, I leave it on the charger in the morning and then I go several hours without even realizing I haven’t been using it. I definitely need some more intentional detox days to just let it rest in a different room.
Exactly. I leave it next to my computer when I go to make lunch, or top off my coffee. Like, to actually exist and wait 30 seconds for the microwave, without looking at my phone. Or do some dishes. Take out the trash. There is so much we can do that is helpful and positive instead of looking at our phones!
Thanks for reading! Yes, that quote floored me. And I know I benefit from being able to publish this on a tech platform with social media features but… damn, stuff like that makes me want to disconnect entirely. This is our dilemma! We want to connect with people seamlessly around the world so badly. Is it worth the cost?

Much food for thought (and the ears!) here - and that Zadie Smith quote...wow. Haunting.

Also in lack of sleep doomscroll hell this week. A note to take a shift and try something new.
Considering locking my phone in a safe after 8pm at this point. Good luck, friend.
